The movie takes place 11 years after the events of the first film. A more advanced Terminator, the T-1000, is sent back in time to kill John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. A reprogrammed T-800 Terminator is also sent back to protect John. The T-800 and John form a bond, and together they try to prevent a nuclear catastrophe known as Judgment Day.
