Eight years later, Zoya returns from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi, deeply changed by its idealistic and political culture. Kundan is still the same man, waiting for her, but Zoya has fallen in love with Akram (Abhay Deol), a charismatic student leader. To marry Akram, she tricks Kundan into helping her, leading him to believe she still loves him. The Tragic Turning Point

Consumed by guilt, Kundan becomes a homeless wanderer before following Zoya back to Delhi. He finds her leading Jasjeet's political party and joins as a low-level worker to atone for his sins. When Kundan discovers that "Akram" is actually a Sikh named Jasjeet Singh, he feels betrayed and impulsively reveals Jasjeet’s true identity to Zoya’s family on their wedding day. This leads to a violent confrontation where Jasjeet is severely injured. Kundan later discovers that Jasjeet has succumbed to his wounds, making him responsible for the death of the man Zoya loved.
