While the front of the motel usually faces the highway (noisy) and the middle faces the parking lot (bright headlights), the back of a motel is the secret weapon. Many roadside motels are situated on rivers, lakes, or forests. You often pay half the price of a resort for the exact same natural vista, just with a concrete step instead of a marble balcony. The Verdict Next time you check into a motel, don't sigh when you pull back the curtain. Look closer. You might see a dusty pickup truck that just crossed three state lines.
