So the next time you watch a cartoon—whether it’s Spider-Verse exploding with typography or a simple Looney Tunes short—don't look at the character. Look at the space between the drawings . They aren’t just lines on paper anymore

Good. Straight lines are boring.

Grab a sticky note pad. Draw a bouncing ball. Frame 1: Top left. Frame 2: Slightly lower. Frame 10: Squashed on the ground. Flip the pages. They are alive

All three are magic. Stop fighting. Start animating. I meet a lot of people who say, "I love animation, but I can’t draw a straight line." It happens late at night

That void is where the animator lived for 40 hours a week. And they filled that void with love.

It’s not the first paycheck. It’s not the film festival screening. It happens late at night, hunched over a tablet or a lightboard, when you draw frame 47 of a walk cycle. You flip between frame 47 and frame 48, and suddenly— magically —the character breathes.
