Riya stared at her phone screen, thumb hovering over the download button. It was 2:17 a.m. The rest of the flat was silent except for the hum of the refrigerator and the distant siren of an ambulance somewhere in the city.

Riya glanced at the screen. Unknown number. She almost declined. But something made her pick up.

But the title of the song caught her like a fishhook.

He was silent.

The friend replied: “Who hurt you, yaar?”

The female voice began: “Aaj kal tanha me…”

Her phone became a ghost town. The WhatsApp ticks stayed grey. Instagram stories went unseen by him. She stopped posting. Her call log was a graveyard of unanswered outgoing calls to his number — until she deleted his contact.
